Adoration and Meditation

Posted by

I start my day feeling loved.  I’d like to say that this comes from some wonderful, spiritual experience or that my husband is passionately affectionate before he leaves for work (as if I’m up for that, so early). It’s much simpler. I’ll explain the fun part in a minute.

Part of getting ready every morning is my 15-20 minute meditation, where I set my intentions for the day. I’m not talking about what I intend to do, but who I intend to be. After all, I have choices: I could be rigid and judgmental, or I could be balanced and discerning. I could spend the day gratifying my ego or I could seek to act in the best and highest good of all. It all depends on who I am that day. So I think it is important to set my intentions.

When I sit down to meditate, I don’t do it alone. I have a few dogs who think this is the perfect time to show me just how much they love me. They shower me with doggy snuggles and kisses, demanding that I spend a few minutes adoring each one. Eventually, they calm down and let me get on to my meditation. It’s an innocent

few minutes, and it’s a wonderful start to the day. Really – what beats a few minutes of unconditional love? When I’m out of town, and if they can’t go with me, the day seems a little less full.

I’ll be out of town next week, away from my family, on business. Clean sheets and maid service every day are nice, but they can’t make up for missing my fur, feather, and human family. Starting the day just isn’t the same.

  1. I was just going to comment on your post and say that it sounds like a lovely way to begin the day. Then I saw in the comments about the unexpected passing of Ember. I am so sorry for your loss. R.I.P Ember

    1. Thanks. I’ve finally gotten to the point I can talk about it. See my most recent post, if you want to hear more about what a special girl she was.

  2. I came across a poem that made me think of you! It is called the Parrot’s Prayer:
“Our feathers, which art glorious, Parrot be my name, My mess is done, My human come, To clean poop, bring food and scratch me, Give us this day our nuts and fruit, And skip the boring pellets you say are necessary, And also bring us the toys so we may leave your curtains alone, And lead us not into the veterinary office, But release us from cages, For yours is the kingdom, I will chew, destroy, and maim, For the next seventy years, So there.”

    1. Nope, I’m not. I just got news that my dog, Ember, died unexpectedly while I’m gone…. I can’t help but think I could have helped, if I’d been there.
