Mystical Orbs

Lots of orbs float above the meadow where our dogs played earlier in the evening.

Sometimes you can feel the richness of the earth and the vitality of the natural world around you. I don’t feel that when I’m downtown, but I can feel it a little in my back yard. It feels strongest when I’m away from the city, somewhere with more plants than people. (As an Amazon Associate, this blog earns a small fee for any purchase made from links in this site, and I appreciate your support of this site.)

I love the different colors of these orbs: light blue, yellow, and pink!

My husband and I recently camped in northern Wyoming, and the area had a wonderful feeling to it.  I could feel that the land was richly nurtured by the nature spirits/elementals in the area.

Knowing the size of the small tree on the left, I think these three large orbs are roughly two feet in diameter.

Some would call these nature spirits leprechauns or fairies, but the camera and I always see them as orbs (round translucent energy balls). Sometimes I see larger, colorful energy balls that are likely to be something else like a spiritual entity. I’ve been reading about nature spirits, trying to strengthen my connection to them. For a basic primer with a distinctly Celtic viewpoint, I recommend Danu Forest’s Nature Spirits: Wyrd Lore & Wild Fey Magic.

There are so many different sizes here! You can also see different colors, although it is subtle. Above the center of the photo is a bright and more distinct being, probably a bat.

A broader review of nature spirits is The Deva Handbook: How to Work with Nature’s Subtle Energies by Nathan Altman. He takes a world-view of nature spirits/elementals and describes them as a type of angels that minister to the Earth and its plants, animals, and minerals.

I set out one evening and was able to capture some orbs with my camera. It took a while to figure out what combination of flash and settings would show me the orbs I knew would be there. I’m sharing the best ones (for now) here, although I look forward to perfecting my technique and coming back with better ones!

The large orb above the tree is fascinating to me. A medium-sized orb is next to the tree and slightly behind.

    1. Your “ice crystal reflectors” look a lot like the orbs I photographed. It was about 60 degrees and no ice when I took my pictures. How do you account for the similarities?

        1. Interesting to hear the scientific take on it. The evening was dry and clear, which is common in the west. I would have thought that even if there was enough humidity to reflect the light, that it would be more uniform. The orbs were not evenly distributed, appeared in different sizes, and with faint coloring that varied. I guess that’s what makes them so mysterious!

    1. I have continued to put off the walking poles, thinking that if I built up my knee muscles, the arthritis in my knees wouldn’t hurt so much. So far, I can’t tell much of a difference. If we stick to the easy trails, I should be ok for a while longer. And yes, we loved the fairies!
