I was surprised recently to be nominated by Anita Bowden for The Three-Day Lyrical Challenge. I enjoy the spiritual but not religious bent to her blog. Thank you for “nominating” me, Anita!
I wanted to share Free Life by Dan Wilson with you. I love the way it reminds us that we have a choice in who we are, what we believe, and who we become.

Free Life, by Dan Wilson
Let’s take a little trip down where we used to go
It’s way beyond the strip a place they call your soul
We’ll sit down for a while and let the evening roll
Don’t worry ’bout the time we’ll find a place to stay
The people ’round here seem familiar in some way
Look kinda like we did before we got so cold
And in the air the questions hang
Will we get to do something
Who we gonna end up being
How we gonna end up feeling
What you gonna spend your free life on?
Free life
Let’s fall in love again with music as our guide
We’ll raise our ready hands and let go for the ride
Down into unknown lands where lovers needn’t hide
We got these lives for free we don’t know where they’ve been
We don’t know where they’ll go when we are through with them
The starlight of the sun the dark side of the moon
Let’s take a little trip down where we used to go
It’s way beyond the strip a place they call your soul
We’ll sit down for a while and let the evening roll
Don’t worry ’bout the time we’ll find a place to stay
The people ’round here seem familiar in some way
Look kinda like we did before we got so cold
And in the air the questions hang
Will we get to do something
Who we gonna end up being
How we gonna end up feeling
What you gonna spend your free life on?

There are three rules to the challenge:
- Thank the person who nominated you.
- Share one of your favorite song/lyrics one at a time for three days.
- Nominate three other bloggers each day.
I was on a business trip when the nomination came through, so I’m late in responding. And it is rather unlikely that I will be posting these three days in a row. I’m still processing all the photos and material from my summer’s trips, and I’m about to take another one! However, I will at least get the first one going.
I nominate:
Now, nominees, you need to know that you can take or leave the gauntlet that I’ve thrown down. Have a little fun or just drop it and move on. Or, modify things a bit like I have. It is supposed to be all in good fun, right?

Great pictures as usual. I have always enjoyed how poetry can say so much in fewer words than expository language and yet convey thoughtful time about important subjects.

Lookout Mountain is practically in our backyard. What a great way to get to CO! We are going out of town, so will think about the challenge while gone. Thanks so much for the nomination.

We’re not, we’re in Tennessee (Chattanooga). Apparently there is more than one Lookout Mountain, LOL

Ha, ha! Yes, it is quite figurative, and not literal. Sigh.
