My husband, youngest child, and I went out in nature today to connect with the Earth, sky, and creatures. This has been a preference for us the past three years, as it gives us a chance to return to balance. We step away from our busy lives to take a little time out for peace.

The day was cleansing and centering, even if it was just a bit of a ramble through the dead grass and leaves around a local lake. We saw eagles, squirrels, and waterfowl. There weren’t many critters out, even though the torrential snowfall last month has given way to some warmer weather for a week or two. We prefer to walk in the beautiful greens of spring, but we enjoy the energy outdoors, no matter what the season. We found a large log to sit on for a bit of individual meditation.

For a short solstice ritual at home, we each wrote down what patterns and energy from 2019 that we want to release and what energies we invite into 2010. Then, we burned the writings to add a bit of energy to our request. Acknowledging that we help, we called on spiritual assistance to bring our desires into fruition. It was a simple statement of intention and request for the help of the universe.

It felt natural for us to quietly reflect together. It felt right to return to center and celebrate the solstice together as adults, too. I hope that you found a chance to do the same.

I love the tradition of writing down problems and negative thoughts and letting them go…up in smoke.
First encountered this tradition in Hawaii, at a Hindu temple.
Made me feel better to do this.

What beautiful rituals you have, and I love that you do this as a family. I welcomed the solstice this year, fall has seemed a little rough and the short days have been getting to me! We were busy with a family Christmas party, but I was still thinking about it. In the future I’d like to do more to connect with the spiritual side of things. ♥

It has taken us a while to get our act together so that we can do something together. First, we had to agree to set the day aside. I researched the traditions to put together the display last year. We wanted it to be distinct from Christmas. It has been a rough year for each of us this year, full of opportunities for growth. We each had our own reasons to be eager to put it behind us and invite new energies in for 2020! The three of us are quite compatible in our beliefs and feel restored by nature. That is probably the most enjoyable part. We can do it together, even the meditation, without awkwardness or irritation. I feel very lucky.

It felt good to release what I’m ready to give up and to invite in new energy. I’ve felt new energy coming through during the past few days, too!
